Teens for Trees Program for Watertown MA Logo Challenge!

Goal: Create an original logo for the Teens for Trees in Watertown Program.  This logo should be functional in both black & white and color.  Logo will be used for (1) print, (2) T-Shirts, and (3) The Web.

Directions:

1. Research the Organization Teen for Trees.  Visit the following Web site for more information: https://treesforwatertown.org/
2. Refer to provided handout and conduct research about the organization Teens for Trees.
3. Consider the direction for your logo design. Will it be abstract, semi-representational, logo-type, or a combination?
4. Create thumbnail sketches in the provided box(s) on handout.  Additional paper can be provided for more studies. Evolve your ideas. 
   
5. Once you have worked out some concepts on paper, call the instructor over for feedback.  Once the instructor has agreed on a direction for your design, begin constructing your work in Adobe Illustrator.
6. The final product will be rendered in (1) black & white, (1) One color with tinting and shading and (3) Two color with tinting and shading.
7. Avoid the use of gradients or special filter effects.  Keep the design simple, memorable and effective.
8. At no time are you allowed to reference other logos, clip art or illustrations from the internet for tracing.  You are however allowed to reference photographic information for the purposes of interpreting.
9. Choosing fonts.  You can utilize fonts on Adobe Illustrator and/or go to web sites like Dafont.com to donwload new fonts. Be sure to convert all fonts to an outline before final submission.

Goal: Create an original logo for a fictitious product.

Directions:

1. Determine the type of product or service that you want to target for logo design.
2. Consider your audience.  What is the age group that will purchase this product? Is there any other relevant information about the targeted audience that should be considered?
3. Consider use of color. What types of color schematics have been used with similar products/services logo designs?
4. Font Face Considerations.  What type of font face(s) have been used with similar product/services?
   
   

• Conduct the research above.
• Start the design process with pencil and paper.  Create a box shape and produce sketch within box frame.  Thumbnail sketches should be quick and sloppy.  The purpose of a thumbnail sketch is to brainstorm ideas, not to create perfection.
• Once thumbnail sketch is approved, begin the digital work with Adobe Illustrator.
• Secure font face(s).  If the font you are looking for is not loaded on the classroom computer, look to sites like dafont.com to potentially download new fonts to your font library folder.
  
  

A logo (abbreviation of logotype,"word" is a graphic mark, emblem, or symbol commonly used by commercial enterprises, organizations and even individuals to aid and promote instant public recognition. Logos are either purely graphic (symbols/icons) or are composed of the name of the organization (a logotype or wordmark).

 A logo is the central element of a complex identification system that must be functionally extended to all communications of an organization. Therefore, the design of logos and their incorporation in a visual identity system is one of the most difficult and important areas of graphic design. Logos fall into three classifications (which can be combined). Ideographs, such as Chase Bank, are completely abstract forms; pictographs are iconic, representational designs; logotypes (or wordmarks) depict the name or company initials.

Color is a key element in logo design and plays an important role in brand differentiation. The importance of color in this context is due to the mechanics of human visual perception wherein color and contrast play critical roles in visual detail detection. In addition, we tend to acquire various color connotations and color associations through social and cultural conditioning, and these play a role in how we decipher and evaluate logo color. While color is considered important to brand recognition and logo design, it shouldn't conflict with logo functionality, and it needs to be remembered that color connotations and associations are not consistent across all social and cultural groups.

Choosing an organisation's logo's color is an important decision because of its long term implications and its role in creating differentiation among competitors' logos. A methodology for identifying potential logo colors within an industry sector is color mapping, whereby existing logo colors are systematically identified, mapped, and evaluated
