Digital Collage

​Objective:
Create a digital collage with sampled imagery from the internet that demonstrates spacial relationships and original creative thinking.  Demonstrate your media literacy skills around the use of Adobe Photoshop.

Directions:

1. Create a new document in Photoshop  File > New Document.  Resolution should be 72dpi.  The size should be letter size, portrait or landscape.
2. Begin your collage by choosing a background.  Once found, drag it into the photoshop document.
3. Once the background is in place, start inserting subject matter.
4. Be sure to back up your work.  Save to your student folder as ".psd" format.

Photoshop Tools:

1. Hue & Saturation - "Image > Adjustment > Hue & Saturation"
2. Selection Tools - Lasso, Magic Wand, Pollygonal Tool.
3. Layer Pallet - "Window > Layers"
4. Levels - "Image > Adjustment > Levels"

Rubrics:

1. Create convincing depth of field (a) overlapping shapes, (b) diminishing detail, saturation, (c) objects getting smaller as they reseed into the background
2. Craft: Make accurate and clean selection.
3. Asymmetrical Composition: Place your focal point(s) off center.  Use other shapes to off set subject.  Create a visual triangle between shapes.
4. Be creative. Remember that this is a collage.  It does not have to be bound by the rules of reality!  Have fun!
