7023 Visual Art - 2D L1
The goal of this course is to introduce students to the languages, concepts, and practices of art through visual and art historical perspectives. Students will be engaged in discussion about the elements of art, such as content, composition, style, method and materials. Students will also be introduced to visual art practices such as drawing, painting, printmaking, and multimedia collage. Semester 3 credits Homework Policy Like any discipline, it is important to keep up your practice habits. On average you will be expected to independently work outside of class in a sketch pad. Each homework assignment will be worth 25pts (worth 1/4th of a studio grade). Sketch pad studies should reflect 1hr or more of applied effort. Unexcused late homework will not be excepted. You will need to purchase a sketch pad for this class, no smaller than 8x10. It is recommended that you avoid purchasing a pad with a glued binder, as pages often come loose. Instead, it is suggested that you obtain a spiral bound pad or a book bound sketch pad. Also, please come to class each day with 2 pencils. Studio Work Throughout this course we will explore a variety of visual challenges and use of media. Art History Art history is an important part of this course. We will consider the works of several known artists, both historical and contemporary. Critique Your feedback is valuable! You will be expected to contribute to routine class critiques. Focused Portfolio for 2DII You will be challenged to formulate a driving philosophy and emerging techniques that will steer the direction of your portfolio concentration. |
